Paver project calculator
Estimate rectangular pavers and the geometric volumes of base material and bedding sand.
How the estimate works
Pavers = project area ÷ individual paver area, with allowance, rounded up. Base and sand volumes = project area × each layer depth, with the same ordering allowance.
Worked example
A 10 × 10 ft patio using 12 × 12 in pavers needs 100 pavers before waste, or 110 with 10% allowance. A 4 in base is about 1.23 cubic yards before allowance.
Before you order
- The paver count uses face area. It does not model joint spacing, the laying pattern or an exact cutting plan.
- The allowance applies to pavers, base and sand. Adjust your order with a supplier if they need different allowances.
- Layer volumes are geometric estimates. Confirm suitable depths, compaction and product requirements for your project.
Common questions
Does this include polymeric joint sand?
No. Joint sand coverage depends on paver thickness, joint width and the product. Use its manufacturer’s coverage guidance.
Will every paver fit without cuts?
Not necessarily. Pattern, edge cuts and breakage affect the final order. This is an area-based purchase estimate.
